The promise and hope of Spring

May 2, 2020

These have been some challenging and unsettled times. I'm looking forward to the promise of Spring and better days - especially for all those who are working so hard providing essential services and care.

It's difficult to predict how the summer season will look but know that Handworks is working to continue to represent our artists and to provide safe ways for our customers to continue to support these dedicated people. We are honored to represent over 100 artists, all small independent businesses.

I especially want to thank those special gallery friends that have reached out via phone and email or have made online purchases. These not only have helped the gallery but also have made a difference to artists who have seen their livelihood  dwindle to nothing practically overnight. These orders, no matter how small, offer encouragement in the face of uncertainty.

It looks like we'll be able to reopen on June 1st.

I'll be working to implement safety measures as outlined in the State of Maine's protective protocols and look forward to seeing gallery friends & artists once again - even with appropriate distancing and face masks.

We are adding more wonderful artwork to the website. This is a huge job since nearly every piece in the gallery is one of a kind. We will strive to be inclusive and are certainly happy to individually consult with customers about specific requests. The site will also offer an option for local pick-up of on line orders as well as gift cards delivered electronically.

Until we can reopen, we are available via email: HandworksGallery@outlook.com, you can leave a phone message at 207-374-5613, or send a message through this site, or Instagram/Facebook @handworksgallerymaine. I'll respond to you as soon as I can. Let me know how I can help. Looking for a special gift, need to replace a favorite mug, or wanting an infusion of art? I'll send photos and we can arrange for curbside pick up or shipping.

I know there are many who are having very difficult days and have lost loved ones. I send wishes for better times, health, and healing. I hope everyone stays well and navigates these times with gratitude, grace, and good spirits.
